READBOWL is a reading competition that coincides with the NFL playoffs and will run for four weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. Each week represents a “quarter,” and at the end of each week, a leading class will be announced. At the end of the four weeks, we will crown:
One winning class from grades K–2
One winning class from grades 3–5
The winning classes will earn a pizza party and the heralded READBOWL Trophy, currently held by last year’s champions—Mrs. Wallitsch’s class!
As part of the Read-A-Thon fundraiser, students will also have the opportunity to earn individual prizes by fundraising. More details about the fundraising portion will be sent home in a packet early this week.
How it works:
Students will log their reading minutes Monday through Thursday
A parent/guardian signature is required to verify minutes
Logs should be returned to the teacher by Friday morning
READBOWL is a fun and motivating way to ignite our students’ curiosity and passion for reading and literacy while encouraging teamwork and school spirit. We are also looking forward to welcoming special visitors during READBOWL, just as we did last year when we hosted Edison High School football players, Rutgers football players, and a visit from Super Bowl Champion Victor Cruz!
Please be sure to check the attached flyer for this week’s READBOWL Spirit Week details.
This truly is a win-win—students celebrate the NFL playoffs, work together, grow as readers, and help raise funds that directly benefit our school. We can’t wait to get started!
